What?
An half marathon and a 10K runs around the Arctic city of Tromsø: no light, a lot of snow, ice and a quite chilly afternoon are all benefits of the race. One of the few in the world marked with torchlights.

Where?
The 'Polar Night Halfmarathon' run takes place in Tromsø, in the north of Norway.

When?
The 2012 run is on January the 7th, a good chance to recover from the extra pounds of Christmas. If you miss the winter run, a very popular summer race is hold in June, the Midnight Sun Marathon when you can run in broad daylight in the middle of the night.

Why?
The chance to see the aurora borealis is worth the price of the flight alone: the capital of northern Norway offers statistically the most Northern Lights in the world. At 70º latitude, Tromsø is the most northerly AIMS-certified half-marathon in the world and offer the quite unique chance to run 21 kilometers in a bizarre and chilly weather. Don't forget a hat.
