What?
The marathon and the half marathon are the main running events in the capital and largest city of Belgium. A 4km for ladies and and a kids run are taking place as well. Along with the 20 km of Brussels (www.20kmdebruxelles.be), the ING Brussels Marathon is one of the most popular running event in Belgium.
Where?
In Brussels' avenues and boulevards, crossing the most beautiful parks of the city: the amazing finish in the spectacular Grand Place justify the too many road tunnels and the surprisingly hilly course. The race starts in the Esplanade of the Cinquantenaire Park, not far from the European Parliament.
When?
All the races are taking place on Sunday October 2nd 2011. The time limit for the marathon is five hours, for the half marathon 02:30. The marathon starts at 9 am, the half marathon at 10.30am: Brussels is one of the few races were all the (marathon and half marathon) runners enjoy the last few miles together, arriving roughly at the same time.
Why?
Probably the less crowded marathon in an European capital (let's forget Andorra), Brussels offers an amazing location, many royal attractions, a party city, friendly people and a quite cheap weekend in Belgium. In a city renowned worldwide for its beer and chocolates, run through the architectural melting pot, from the Art nouveau buildings to the European Parliament and European Economic and Social Committee. And when you cross the finish line drink a kriek, the Belgian beer fermented with cherries, and eat a chocolate waffle just off the Grand Place. You deserved them.
