What?
A marathon. Actually, the marathon. The real one in the place where the story began. A 10km race, a 5km race and the "power walking" option are also available on the same day.
Where?
The course of the marathon is the original one used during the first modern Olympic Games (24.85 miles), as well as the Olympic course of Athens 2004. It starts from the City of Marathonas and finishes in the Panathinaikon Stadium in Athens.
When?
The 2011 edition of the Athens Classic Marathon will be held on November 13th.
Why?
Don't worry too much about the hilly course, in autumn Athens is unlikely to have a humid or hot or even smoggy day: the city is at its best in early November. The great finish in the Panathinaikon Stadium, where Silvio Baldini won the Olympic marathon, and the official start in the city of Marathonas are worth a few hours of tough running anyway. Enjoy the chance to visit the Agora, the Temple of Zeus or the Dionysos Theatre. And you could say I run "the" marathon.
