What?
A summer run late in the afternoon. A flat race in the mountains. Reschenseelauf is a 15.3 kilometers (80% on tarmac, 20% off-road) race at 1500 metres above sea level in Alto Adige.
Where?
Whatever you call it Reschensee (in German) or Lago di Resia (in Italian), the race is a one loop of the artificial lake.
When?
End of July.
Why?
In Italy but just a mile from the Austrian border, Lake Resia is the largest and artificial lake in South Tyrol and a great location for a summer break in the Alps. Reschenseelauf is an option if you want to spend a few days in the Alps in summer and prefer a pleasent flat race to a mountain one for your training. Over 1K runners spend a Saturday night running around Reschensee every year. Live music, fireworks and a great goodie bag add some extra value to the night race.
How (much)?
Registration fee is from €20 (early registration) to €35 for late registrations. It's not so easy to fly to lake Resia: best options are Munich in Germany, Verona in Italy and Zurich in Switzerland, all between 250 and 300 kilometres away. Easier to take a Vinschgerbahn train to Malles (15 km away from the lake) with a connection in Bozen, a main station on the Germany to Italy railway. If you like to save a few euros, the organizers offer a chance to sleep in local gyms using a shuttle-service from the lake. For more accommodation options contact the South Tyrol tourist office (www.suedtirolerland.it) or the Reschenpass local one (www.reschenpass.it).
