What?
A great autumn running weekend: the major event is a full marathon in the city centre of Amsterdam but the organizers offer also a popular Menzis 8km and a very fast half marathon (Mizuno Half Marathon).
Where?
Organized by Le Champion, all the races take place in the city centre and all runners finish in the Olympic Stadium. The marathon starts as well at the Olympic Stadium, goes along the Amstel River and offers a superb sightseeing tour, including the Vondelpark, the Maritime Museum and many miles of the historic canals.
When?
Sunday 16th of October is the big day for 2011: over 30K runners from around Europe will crowd the streets of the Netherlands' capital. On-line registration will be possible until the end of September or until the maximum number of participants has been reached. Maximum time is 6h 30m for the marathon, 3 hours for the half distance.
Why?
Looking for a vibrant European city for a long distance race after the summer? Would you also like to improve your PB? A often forgotten gem on the large (over 10K runners) marathon circuit, the marathon offers an exceptionally fast course. Amsterdam was the "Art City" in 2010, bursting with special exhibitions, a new new Hermitage Amsterdam Museum, festivals and cultural events. A great, well organized and easy to navigate website helps you finding all the info for the weekend. For more information about the city, check www.amsterdamtourist.nl and www.iamsterdam.com.
