What?
The Zagreb Athletic Association organizes the Vecernjak's Zagreb marathon and the Hervis' half marathon in the city centre of the capital of Croatia. A 5K 'citizens race' is available as well.

Where?
Start and finish are in Ban Josip Jelacic Square. You race through Jurisiceva Street, down to Dubrava and return the same way back to Zagreb`s central square. The marathon is 2 laps, the half marathon one: if you are primarily looking for a sightseeing race, join the half marathon or you might get bored.

When?
The 2011 edition of the Zagreb marathon was on October 9th.

Why?
Zagreb is a marathon away from the crowd, in 2009 less then 1K runners joined the two main races. Combine the marathon or the half marathon with one week of relax on the Dalmatian coast or organize just a long weekend in the capital: Zagreb has a lot to offer and is very different from the coast of Croatia. Enjoy some food in Dolan market, visit the beautiful Upper town (the medieval core of the city), spend a couple of hours in the Mirogoj cemetery or do your training at Maksimir park. If you have an extra day, catch a bus to the amazing Unesco Plitvice National Park.
