What?
Shorter than a half marathon but with a 330m ascent, the Course du Trophée is an unusual 19.1K race in the south of France.

Where?
Run in the Parc Naturel de la Grande Corniche, struggle on Col d'Eze and Fort de la Revère and enjoy amazing views over the Riviera coastline and the Alpes-Maritimes. The start and finish are in Place Neuve, La Turbie.

When?
Usually the second weekend of September: the 2011 edition of the Course du Trophée was on September 11th. The entry fee in advance is less than €10 (a bargain, T-shirt included).

Why?
To run abroad you don't necessarily need to register for a large international event, get away from the (running) crowd: a local race, very well organized, the Course du Trophée offers a great course for the first (almost) half marathon after the summer. Not far from Nice, few miles from Monaco, La Turbie is famous for the the huge monument from Roman times, the Trophy of Augustus (yes, that's the Trophée) built by the emperor Augustus. Eat some Socca, the chickpea specialty of Nice, spend a few hours in the Principato di Monaco, run Promenade des Anglais in Nice or enjoy the last few days of summer in the French Riviera. Options – before and after the race – are endless.
