What?
A running event with a breathtaking scenery in South Africa, an half marathon – the largest in the country – or an ultramarathon (56K) but not a traditional marathon distance.

Where?
In the beautiful and picturesque city of Cape Town. As the name suggests, the Two Oceans Marathon is a race where the runners pass both oceans surrounding South Africa, the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. Challenging mountain climbs, including Chapmans Peak and Suikerbossie Pass, are part of the longer distance, but the 21K has quite a few hills as well. Both races start in Newlands: the half marathon route is along the same course as the ultramarathon for the first 6 km and go back to Newlands after running through Plumstead and Constantia.

When?
The Two Oceans Marathon is traditionally run on Easter weekend. For 2012 get ready for April 7th. You need to complete a marathon in less than 5 hours to join the longer distance.

Why?
Labelled "the world’s most beautiful marathon", the Two Oceans Marathon is a stunning but challenging race for a pleasurable holiday in a country of breathtaking views. If you are up to the challenge to cover the distance in less than the 6 hours, it's possibly one of the few chances to run a ultramarathon with an incredible scenery and over 10K fellow runners. Great race organisation and atmosphere, a race to avoid if you are looking for a PB in the half marathon or a quiet long distance race where you can run mainly alone. The exchange rate of the rand is lower than a few years ago so it's a great time to plan an ultramarathon in South Africa on the cheap.
