What?
A marathon, a relay marathon (5 runners in a team), a halfmarathon and a 10K in Munich.
Where?
In the city centre of the Bavarian capital: the marathon starts at the Olympiapark and you will run past the Ludwigstraße, the Englischer Garten and Marienplatz before going back to the Olympiastadion, through the large Marathontor. The 10K goes from the Ackermannstraße to the Odeonsplatz and back.
When?
Just a week after the end of the Oktoberfest, the 2011 races take place on Sunday October 9th. Take a slow sightseeing tour of the city, the maximum time for the marathon is over 6 hours.
Why?
If you are flying for the greatest (and most expensive) beer festival in Europe, you might stay a few extra days and join the marathon as well: but both for you wallet and running goals, it's better to spend just a weekend in the city and enjoy the many beer gardens after the race. The marathon try to offer the best of Bavaria, with a party area at Schwabing and good support from the music events along the course. But save the last bit of energy for the finish party at the Olympic Stadium. Both the relay and 10K races offer a great opportunity to mix a relaxing weekend in Bavaria with a short run in the city centre.
