What?
The Nordea Riga Marathon is the major running event in Latvia. A half-marathon and a 5K race are held the same day.

Where?
A scenic course in the city center of the picturesque capital and largest city of Latvia: the race is a grand tour of the lovely Old Town. From the Old Town to the Art Nouveau district, from the Vansu bridge to river Daugava, the (2 laps) course covers the most famous landmarks of the city.

When?
The 2012 edition will be on May 20th. Almost 12000 runners joined the 2011 edition.

Why?
Riga is not only a city infamously popular for British stag and hen parties, thousands of runners enjoy great breaks in Latvia as well. Spend a few days travelling around the Baltic country and join the fastest growing marathon event in the Baltic and Eastern Europe: the cobbled medieval streets and the many bars and cafés of Riga are not great for a PB but you will enjoy a superb sightseeing tour and an unforgettable weekend. After the race try a shot of Balzams, also called the "Black Death", the historic drink of Riga. Mix Eastern Europe prices and hospitality to have a low cost race abroad: check the Riga Tourism Coordination and Information Centre (www.rigatourism.com/riga) for a few ideas and options.
