Felice Devine is a runner living in New York State, USA. She is the full-time caretaker of her very active two-year-old son, and a freelance writer and editor. She loves running over the many hills in her neighborhood and going on runs when she’s traveling to other areas. She’s run one marathon and several races of other distances from 5K to 15K. She writes about running at her blog, The Happy Runner, and is the Albany, NY Running Examiner on Examiner.com.

What has been your favourite race so far?
My favorite race is the Freihofer’s Run for Women 5K. It has been run for 30+ years in Albany, NY and it attracts many of the world’s top women runners every year. As a woman, I really do enjoy having the opportunity to run in all-women races. There is just a very special feel to the act of lining up at the start of a race with 4,000 women.

What race would you like to run?
I would love to run the NYC Marathon or the London Marathon.

City road or remote trail?
I enjoy both! I like to wave and say, “Hello” to other runners and walkers when I’m out for a run, and you see a lot people on city streets. But, I also like the feeling of running in more natural environs. Unfortunately, I don’t get to run on many remote trails these days. Instead, I usually stick to the hilly routes near my home.

Crowded 30K runners’ major events or quiet local ones?
I see benefits in both types of events but I think my running style is best suited to quiet local races. I’m a solo runner so I’m used to just going out and running. When I’m packed in crowds, it can be tough for me to adjust. On the other hand, large races usually have terrific crowd support and high energy, which you get less of in smaller events.

One more reason to go running?
One of my favorite quotations says it best: “If movement is a sign of life and stillness is death, running is an example of life most fully lived. It’s beautiful.” – British artist, Martin Creed.
