What?
The Lago Maggiore Half Marathon is the main running event in the Italian Lake District.
Where?
On the southern end of Lake Maggiore, from Stresa to Verbania (every year the organizers reverse the course), crossing Ferriolo and Baveno and running mainly on the lakeshore.
When?
From Verbania to Stresa, join the 2012 edition of the Lago Maggiore Half Marathon on March 11th. There is a full marathon as well but in autumn, check the Lake Maggiore Marathon.
Why?
A new entry in the Italian circuit of Spring half marathons, the Lago Maggiore Half Marathon clocked in previous years the fastest runs in Italy: not far from Milan, it is a good chance to improve your personal best running with amazing views of Borromean Island. The opportunities in the area are endless: Como (and Lake Como), Milan and Switzerland are not far away but if you want to relax go around the lake by ferry and visit Isola Bella and Isola Madre. If instead you have energy left from the race, hike the nearby Mottarone for superb views of the lake region.
