What?
The Meia Maratona Sport Zone is a half marathon in the city of Porto, in Portugal. The Mini Maratona Santander Totta, a 6km walk/run, is organized the same day.
Where?
Along the Douro river estuary, enjoying the best streets of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia and crossing twice the (amazing) Dom Luis I bridge.
When?
The 2011 run is on September 18th. The same organizer promotes as well a full marathon (the Porto Marathon) the first weekend of November.
Why?
Porto offers a superb location for an autumn race with cheap flights, warm climate and superb drinks and food. Run by the Caves do Vinho do Porto, take a look at the stunning zona Ribeirinha and enjoy a great finish next to the sea. As a reward after the race, sip a glass of local wine and try the bacalhau in one of the many restaurants in Cais de Gaia. For more options, check the Porto Turismo website (www.portoturismo.pt).
