Eduard Martinell Vidal has always enjoyed sports and the outdoors but never blended them until he got into trail running. Since then, many miles, many trails, a website about the subject (www.trailrunningsoul.com) and a soon to be up and running business offering running tours in the Pyrenees (www.traiectus.com).

What has been your favorite race/run so far?
Road race: the Chicago marathon. It was my first marathon, in a city I enjoyed living for a couple of years and one of the most popular road marathons in the USA.
Trail race: the first stage of the Costa Brava Xtrem Challenge, 25Km through coastal trails in the beautiful Costa Brava (Spain). It was a tough race but also very rewarding to race through places I already know since I was a child.

What race would you like to run?
I’d love to run one of the so called “adventure running” races. One of those ultra (or multi-day) events happening in remote deserts, rainforests, high mountain ranges or even in Antarctica! But first I will have to keep training… a lot!

City road or remote trail?
I’m definitely a trail runner. Even if it’s just at your neighborhood park, trails are always more rewarding than roads, both for your mind and your body. And if a simple city trail can be fun to run, imagine cruising a remote mountain trail with breathless scenery!

Crowded major events or quiet local ones?
I like local races, but a major event here and there on the calendar makes racing more interesting. The possibility to measure your performance against top runners spices up your runs!

One more reason to go running?
To either empty your mind and forget about everything else, or to focus on a particular subject or problem and get the answer which was already in your mind but you couldn’t get it out.
