What?
The Eurasia Marathon is the major running event in Istanbul and the only one in the world where you can run from one continent to another. A competitive 15km and a 8km fun run are organized on the same day.

Where?
All events start on the Asian side of the city, close to the Bosphorus bridge, and end on the European one crossing the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn. Both the marathon and the 15km end in Sultanahmet district, the area where most of the tourist attractions and accommodations are. The Fun Run finishes in Dolmabahce, between the Besiktas Inonu Stadium and the Dolmabahce Palace.

When?
Organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the 2011 edition takes place on October 16th. Time limit is 5 hours and 30 minutes.

Why?
Not as famous and large as other city races in Europe (it's not London), not a typical offer in the exotic marathons' packages (it's not Petra), the Eurasia marathon is a hidden gem in the autumn calendar with amazing views such as the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. Flying to one of the top destinations for a short warm break, runners have the unique chance to cross the Bosphorus Bridge by foot, as it's reserved to vehicular traffic only for the rest of the year. Get ready for the race with some tasty and cheap döner and simit in the many bazaars and streets in the old city. Or relax after the race with a few cups of chai and the best Turkish delight.
