Christian Tozzi is the race director of the Ecomaratona del Chianti, a trail marathon that starts from Castelnuovo Beradenga in the splendid landscape of Tuscany and continues into the Chianti hills and vineyards.
Tell us something about the race we cannot find on the homepage of the event.
It’s an occasion not only to make sport, but also to visit the wonderful Tuscan hills, old castle and villas and to enjoy the incredible pasta party prepared by the local people in a beautiful Tuscan village.
Do you have a favourite mile? Have you run the race yourself in the past?
I would love to run it myself but I’m always busy with organisation. However in preparation of the run I have done the trail several times. I love this trail because I have lived my whole life here and I have always been running here. However, my favourite part is towards the end where there is a 1 km beautiful alley with the surrounding vineyards leading up a magnificent villa.
Apart from a pair of shoes and a smile, what would you like runners to bring to the race?
A camera for the wonderful landscape, a glass for the local wine and some spare time for the beautiful lunch and dinner organised for the runners
Some numbers: how many people are involved in the organization of the event? How many runners do you expect for the next edition? How many from abroad?
Last edition we had 2000 runners (200 from abroad), 550 on the marathon, 750 on 18K Chianti Trail and 700 runners for the 10K walk. For the next edition we expect at least the same numbers.
What is your favourite race (excluding the ones you organize)?
Without doubts the Ecomaratona delle Madonie (www.ecomaratonadellemadonie.it) in Sicily, it is an unforgettable experience that you should try as well.

This was the most spectacular marathon I have ever run. It was my 50th marathon on my birthday. One of the other marathoners was celebrating her 1st marathon and 30th birthday. Couldn't get more special than that! There were 6 of us from Canada running and walking all the events. It is safe to say we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The race was very well organized and the pre and post meals were delicious. You live in such a beautiful area. We stayed in San Gusme and loved our time there.
Is there place to look at pictures taken during the run and do you have statistics such as numbers of women and age catagories?
Thank you very much for a wonderful event. We would do it again iin a heart beat!
A great story, thanks very much for sharing Joanne, another 50 Marathon's to come.
