For example a T-shirt design was organized earlier during the year which bore the theme of Runniny by the Sea and saw the entries of more than 120 children from all over Sussex. Samuel Blackwell, 13, from Hove who was the winner will get a pair of Brooks trainer and a cash voucher for art equipment while at the same time have the privilege of seeing his design being printed on the T-shirts of runners for this year’s event.

The races will accommodate runners from ages 8 to 16 and is organized by the Sussex Beacon, which is a charity that supports people with HIV/Aids.

At the time of his death he was in Balfour setting up a sport project which had the aim of unearthing new talent and developing the potential of people who had the capacity to perform well in sports. He was also the vice chairman of the Central Gauteng Athletics.

Looking back at this career and contribution to sports in South Africa, people who were close to him did not mince their words when it comes to highlight the various contributions that Sinqe has done to athletics. For example CGA president, James Moloi said that he has not only lost a friend and a brother but also someone who has dedicated his entire life to development. The same was said by former Athletics South Africa boss Leoarnd Chuene who said that he dedicated his entire life in forming youngsters and encouraging them to participate in sports.

Boxing legend Matlala in turn added that apart from his contribution to sports he was himself a very good person, a jolly fellow always cracking jokes and making people around him happy.

The memorial service will be held at Braamfontein Recreational Centre at 2 pm tomorrow.

The 37 year old mother of two lost her left leg when a motorcycle ran over her leg causing damage to her ankle. Initially doctors said that surgery could help save her leg but it was later found that owing to the damage caused, she had to be amputated.

Amputation came like a shock to Amy who was an enthusiastic runner. When she finally conceded to the amputation, she was eager to resume running and started looking at her options in terms of prosthesis. Her prosthetist Erik Schaffer explains that amputees are at a physical disadvantage as opposed to normal runners since they exert more energy because of their missing joints.

However with her state of the art componentry worth a whopping $26,000 which was created by Schaffer and his team, Amy has managed to start running again. Since then she has achieved 12 amputee world records from the 5K to the Ironman Triathlon. She was also nominated for the ESPY award and Runner’s World Hero of Running distinction in 2007. She was also named as the USATF Runner of the Week last October and listed as the Runner of the Decade by the Washington Post.

Her success and perseverance Amy attributes it to her family who has always been supportive as well as people around her who have always made her feel positive about her situation. Despite her achievements, she remains modest and says that she is not a supernormal person, she is neither a disabled a person. She is normal and trying to live her life simply and doing things that she loves.

More than two dozen American men took part in the race with the hope that when and if they win they will get a chance to participate in the Olympic Trials Marathon. But for Houseworth, 24, this was never his dream! The young man who has as coach, Juli Benson, the same woman who coached jenny Simpson, is now the lucky qualifier for the trials after completing the race in 1:03:12.

Despite winning, the young man remains humble and explains that this is the second half marathon he has been running in his life and knows nothing about grueling marathon training. Initially he wanted to catch up front runner Craig Curley who had a big lead on the other runners. But when the field reached 8 kilometers, the leader was caught by the others, including Houseworth who was making progress and in turn had a lead over the pack.

In the end the young man made it to the first place while Curley finished at the seventh position. When asked about the upcoming Olympics trials, Houseworth said that although he is confident about his performance and running ability, he remains quite skeptical regarding participating in such a high profile marathon.

The sponsor is none other than Sports4 and has agreed to lend its support for the upcoming three years. Race director Ken Parker said that this cash price is expected to attract some of the best runners of Canada into the race and hope to give this race more popularity.

The race which is at its sixth edition will be run next June on the 23rd and is run in honor of talented Canadian distance runner Emilie Mondor who tragically died in a car accident back in 2006. This women only race saw the participation of hundreds of women last year and 19 runners out of 355 finishers completed the race in less than 20mins.

For so long Shelley LeTendre has been running full marathons-14 in all-out of passion and having competition in mind. It is only last year that she has found a whole new purpose behind running marathons-creating awareness about suicide and showing people that suicide is not the solution to problems in life.

After running a half marathon barefoot in a 43 degree weather for the sole purpose of creating awareness, she not only managed to achieve her second best time records but also raised $4500 in Las Vegas on Dec 4.

Regarding the half marathon, LeTendre explains that although she was expecting more pain, everything went on just fine for her-she had the inspiration and reason to run and she felt that the whole time she was running, she was not alone and God was with her the whole time. She is now looking forward to run a full marathon next spring for the same cause.

When asked where she got the inspiration for such a noble cause, she explains that within only three months, she witnessed the suicide of at least nine people she knew and it was only at a friend’s funeral that she was touched by the eulogy and decided she has to bring her own contribution towards suicide prevention and awareness.

After running this first marathon LeTendre is more determined than ever and is planning more marathons ahead and is even collaborating with the YMCA to plan a run in June 2 in Austin. She is even looking forward to do more charity to raise more funds to allocate to this noble cause.

Speaking from her home in Colorado, she explains that she has remained idle for nearly 10 weeks now and this is a real torture for someone as active as her. She wants to jump back on her feet and start running again but for now will prefer lying down and start learning to walk again when the right time comes.

Ballengee, who is a professional trail and adventure racing athlete met with a terrible accident in December and has since then been unable to get back on her feet. On the day of the accident, her day kicked off like any other day and she went trail running accompanied by her long time training companion and pet, Taz. They drove to a remote location out of Moab and planned to do an eight mile loop that connects the Amasa Back Trail with remote, unmapped Jeep roads. She left her cellphone back in her truck and started running when she slipped and fell 60 feet off of three successive rock faces. Following the fall, she landed upright on her legs and it is precisely that which broke her pelvis. She was unable to move and started wondering when and if whether she will ever be discovered since the region of Moab is generally calmed in the December period.

She pinned all her hopes on Taz, wishing that her companion will be able to get help for her. She spent two days in the remote location living on nothing but water from a puddle and eating her two packets of raspberry energy gels that she brought along. Finally after two nights when authorities spotted her truck parked at the remote location they requested a search be initiated to find the runner and she was finally rescued. It was Taz who guided the search party to the injured runner and she was brought to hospital for medical assistance and surgery.

Milford, N. H. is the place you should head to. In fact The Smuttynose Brewing Co. is organizing a series of races starting from January 14 as part of its Will Run For Beer initiative. All in all, you can expect to have a half marathon, a relay half marathon as well as a 5k.

However the most interesting of it all are the first two races which will be run inside. Now you might be thinking how boring this might be but the race director has given participants his personal guarantee that they will not be in for a boring race. Having done the indoor race half marathon himself, he guarantees participants that running on an indoor track is interesting.

As far as the track is concerned there is a little more than five laps to the mile and runners will have to cover a total of 68 laps to get the full 13.1. Participants to the marathon will not have to be worried about the number of lapses they have covered since the race FAQ says that there will be a giant screen bearing your name the number of laps you have covered.
