This legendary tale has been immortalized in the modern-day marathon event, now known as the “Athens Marathon. The Authentic.” The race culminates at the iconic Panathenaic Stadium, a magnificent marble structure resembling an ancient arena, which served as the venue for the track events during the inaugural modern Olympic Games in 1896.
