Foreign runners who participated in the VnExpress Marathon Ha Long 2025 on June 1 were not only impressed by the event as a race but also as a unique journey through Vietnam’s picturesque landscapes and rich culture. Held in the UNESCO-listed bay city, the marathon attracted participants from various corners of the world, each lauding the scenic course, warm ambiance, and seamless organization.
Ovind, a Norwegian runner, expressed his deep admiration for the race and the hospitality of the event staff. He highlighted the attentive volunteers who ensured a smooth experience for all participants. In contrast to his previous marathon experiences in Ho Chi Minh City, Ovind found the Ha Long race to be exceptionally memorable.
Louise Marie and Abel Kempynck from Belgium, who completed the half marathon, were pleasantly surprised by the professionalism and friendliness of the event. They commended the organizers for providing an array of complimentary items and services, including hats, raincoats, finisher shirts, and refreshments throughout the race.
Japanese runner Kabashima Kento, who secured the fourth position in the 42km category, strategically chose Bai Chay Bridge to make his move. He described the view from the bridge during the early morning run as breathtaking, likening it to a captivating painting. Kento, who usually trains alone in Hanoi, found the camaraderie of running alongside thousands of others to be motivating and empowering.
Nick Ajah, an English teacher from Nigeria residing in Hanoi, humorously recounted his marathon experience as the “slowest race of my life.” Despite facing challenges like hot weather and leg cramps, Nick appreciated the event’s robust support system, which provided timely aid such as water, cold towels, and encouraging words.
