The 17th edition of the TCS World 10K run in Bengaluru is all set to kick off with around 35,000 participants ready to hit the streets of central Bengaluru on a Sunday morning. The event will start at 5:30 a.m. with the elite World 10K Women, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere in the city. Shortly after, the World 10K Men will begin their race at 6:08 a.m., followed by the Open 10K category.
The organizers have made some modifications to the route to facilitate faster timings and ensure a smoother experience for the runners. The course adjustments aim to provide a more inclusive and runner-friendly path, with changes like moving an inclined stretch to the middle of the race instead of the final stretch. Race Director Hugh Jones expressed confidence in the course’s condition and layout, taking into account feedback from past events.
Reigning Olympic 10,000m champion Joshua Cheptegei headlines the list of elite male runners for the World 10K Men category. He will face stiff competition from Gabriel Gerald Geay and Stephen Kissa, both accomplished athletes in their own right. On the women’s side, Kenyan runner Cintia Chepngeno leads a group of eight women who have clocked personal bests faster than the current course record, held by Irene Cheptai.
The Indian elite contingent is also gearing up for the challenge, with Sawan Barwal and Sanjivani Jadhav leading the charge in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively. Barwal recently set a meet record in the 10,000m event, while Jadhav, a bronze medallist at the Asian Athletics Championships, is a strong contender among Indian elite women.
The TCS World 10K run in Bengaluru is a World Athletics Gold Label Race, offering a substantial total prize purse of $210,000. This prestigious event attracts top athletes from around the world and serves as a platform for both established champions and emerging talents to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level.
