Former track athlete Jemima Tennekoon has found a new passion for long-distance running since relocating to Queenstown. After representing New Zealand in sprinting events, she transitioned to longer distances and set her sights on the Queenstown Marathon, aiming to break the 1:30 mark in her debut half marathon. Surpassing her own expectations, she finished fifth among women in a remarkable 1:26.32, setting the stage for further achievements.
Under the guidance of Queenstown Athletics Club coach Neville Britton, Tennekoon’s running journey took a transformative turn. Embracing the challenge of distance running, she clinched victory in the Southern Lakes half marathon with an impressive time of 1:19.10, solidifying her position among the top runners in New Zealand over that distance.
