The Fox Valley Marathon is a highly anticipated event that will take place on Sunday, September 21, 2025. As runners gear up for this annual marathon, local police departments in Geneva and St. Charles are preparing for road closures on the day of the race.
The marathon features various races, including a full marathon, half marathon, Fall Final 20, and Fox Valley 5K. The course spans through St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia, and North Aurora, starting and ending at Mt. St. Mary’s Park in St. Charles.
On the race day, the event is scheduled to kick off at 7 a.m. with runners departing from the park via the Prairie Street Bridge. The route will cover both south and north on Riverside Avenue, with the northbound marathon route passing through the Illinois Street Bridge and then south on First Street to Geneva Road, before returning to St. Charles on the east side of the Fox River.
Several road closures are planned from 6:46 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., including the Prairie Street Bridge and parts of Illinois Street Bridge and First Street to Geneva Road, impacting traffic and parking in the area. The marathon is expected to continue until approximately 2 p.m., causing potential delays for motorists.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution and expect delays due to the marathon. Authorities will be present at key locations to assist with traffic management and ensure the safety of both runners and spectators during the event.
In Geneva, road closures will be in effect from 7 to 9 a.m. to accommodate the race. Streets like Route 31, Stevens Street, Ford Street, North Fifth Street, Peyton Street, State Street, James Street, South Fifth Street, Campbell Street, Third Street, and Fulton Street will be closed during this time.
Alternate routes will be provided for motorists affected by the closures, guiding them along designated detours to minimize disruptions. Truck drivers are advised to use specific routes to avoid downtown areas affected by the marathon.
During the event, traffic control measures will be in place, with officials and police officers overseeing the smooth flow of vehicles and assisting residents within the race course area to navigate to and from their homes.
As the Fox Valley Marathon approaches, participants and spectators are urged to stay updated on road closures and plan their travel routes accordingly to ensure a seamless experience for all involved.
