In a vibrant display of solidarity, approximately 350 employees from Hannover Medical School (MHH) participated in the 33rd Hannover Marathon, forming 67 relay teams and setting a record for the number of participants. The marathon, which saw around 30,000 individuals gather under perfect running conditions, featured MHH employees prominently among the runners.
The marathon relay, a segment of the event where up to six runners divide the 42.195-kilometer distance, showcased the teamwork and determination of MHH staff. This year, the relay sections ranged from 4.4 to 9.4 kilometers, culminating in a collective finish in front of the New Town Hall. The MHH teams, clad in bright light-green shirts sponsored by the MHH plus foundation, stood out in the crowd, symbolizing unity and commitment.
MHH Vice President Martina Saurin, part of the “Flotte Füße” team, highlighted the enthusiastic support along the route and the unmistakable presence of MHH at the event. The marathon not only provided a platform for physical endurance but also served as a testament to the institution’s active engagement in community events and initiatives.
Among the participating teams, “s Brain 3” emerged as the fastest MHH team, showcasing exceptional teamwork and determination. The members of this team – Thorsten Scharte, Leo Dietrich, Berit Abraham, Sebastian Schröder, Jan Philip Jürß, and Lars Voß – crossed the finish line in an impressive time of three hours, 22 minutes, and 43 seconds, securing the 42nd position overall.
Reflecting on the event, it was evident that the marathon not only promoted physical fitness but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and unity among MHH employees. The colorful and festive atmosphere of the marathon, combined with the shared goal of completing the race, created a memorable experience for all participants.
Looking back at the previous year’s participation, where 250 MHH employees formed 42 relay teams, the significant increase in involvement this year underscored the growing enthusiasm and engagement of MHH staff in such community events. The marathon served as a platform for individuals from diverse departments within MHH to come together, bond over a common goal, and celebrate their collective achievement.
As the MHH continues to make its mark in various spheres, from healthcare to research and community engagement, events like the Hannover Marathon provide a unique opportunity for employees to showcase their dedication, teamwork, and spirit. The strong presence of MHH at the marathon not only exemplified the institution’s commitment to promoting health and well-being but also demonstrated its unwavering support for initiatives that bring people together in a spirit of unity and collaboration.
