Jacob Kiplimo Shatters Half Marathon World Record in Barcelona

Jacob Kiplimo made history by setting a new world record in the half marathon at the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks 2025. The Ugandan athlete’s remarkable feat of 56:42 marked his second career world record accomplishment. Simultaneously, Joyciline Jepkosgei also created waves by breaking the female record, finishing 18 seconds faster than the previous record.

With over 30,000 runners participating, the event witnessed a significant turnout, with a record 40% female participation. The race, which unfolded in Barcelona, showcased a vibrant mix of athletes and spectators, creating a festive atmosphere in the city. The race’s official post-event celebration, PaRUNda, held at Poble Espanyol, was a sold-out affair with 3,500 tickets snapped up.

The charitable aspect of the event saw the Zurich Foundation contributing funds for every finisher, with a total of 27,053 euros raised for Hospital Sant Joan de Déu.
