The Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM) is gearing up for its 17th edition on 4 and 5 October 2025, set to take place in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Exciting changes are in store for participants this year as the event promises a renewed partnership and new sponsorships. Standard Chartered Malaysia has extended its title sponsorship for another four years, solidifying its commitment to the premier distance running event in the country until 2028.
Joining as Gold sponsors are global sports brand ASICS and Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur (PHKL), with naming rights to the Half Marathon and 10km races respectively. The ASICS Half Marathon and Pantai KL 10km races will showcase the brands’ support for the event, with ASICS also serving as the official footwear and apparel partner for KLSCM.
At a press conference held at Stadium Merdeka, Rainer Biemans, the Director of Dirigo Events and Project Director of KLSCM, unveiled these new developments alongside key figures from Standard Chartered Malaysia, Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, and ASICS Malaysia. One significant change for KLSCM 2025 is the relocation of the start and finish points to the iconic Stadium Merdeka due to ongoing upgrades at Dataran Merdeka.
Biemans expressed his enthusiasm for the continued collaboration with Standard Chartered, emphasizing the shared values and commitment that have propelled the event to new heights over the years. He highlighted the transformative nature of running, noting how the marathon offers a platform for participants to challenge themselves and achieve personal milestones.
Mak Joon Nien, CEO of Standard Chartered Malaysia, underscored the bank’s pride in extending the sponsorship, aligning it with the bank’s 150th anniversary in Malaysia and its commitment to the nation’s success. With Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair in 2025, the marathon serves as a unifying platform to promote inclusivity and sustainability through the universal language of sport.
Notable additions to this year’s event include the Run Club Challenge and State Youth Challenge, offering unique opportunities for running clubs and young Malaysian athletes to showcase their talents and compete for prizes that will benefit state athletics associations and youth programs.
KLSCM 2024 set new records with a large number of participants, the introduction of the Medic on the Run program, and significant funds raised for charity through the Run For A Reason initiative. The 2025 edition will continue the Medic on the Run program, providing on-the-go medical assistance to runners during the race.
Registration for KLSCM 2025 opens soon, with priority registration for returning participants and faster runners, followed by public registration. The event will also focus on sustainability efforts, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint and promote eco-friendly practices, including the use of refillable bottles and waste reduction strategies.
The marathon’s commitment to making a positive impact extends to its charity partners, with funds raised through RFAR supporting causes that benefit Malaysian society. Futuremakers by Standard Chartered, Hospis Malaysia, Kechara Soup Kitchen, and Teach for Malaysia are the designated beneficiaries for 2025.
KLSCM 2025 will once again bring together official partners, supporters, and government entities to ensure a successful and memorable event. As the countdown to the marathon begins, participants and spectators can look forward to an exciting and meaningful experience that celebrates the spirit of running and community engagement.
