The 11th Moscow Marathon, a significant event in the Russian capital, saw over 30,000 participants, making it the largest race in the country in 2024. Athletes from various nations, including Kenya, China, Morocco, and Ethiopia, joined the competition. This marathon was part of the BRICS Marathon League, which includes races in St. Petersburg and Kazan, with plans to expand to other cities and countries by 2025.
The marathon, organized since 2013 with the backing of the Moscow City Government, featured a two-day event with races covering distances of 10 kilometers and the full marathon distance of 42.2 kilometers. Additionally, a children’s race was held, along with corporate and student relays that engaged numerous teams.
Winners and runners-up received accolades, including medals adorned with landmarks like the iconic domes of St. Basil’s Cathedral. Special medals were awarded to participants who completed all three races in the BRICS Marathon League or competed at this level for the second time, honoring their dedication and achievement.
Organizers prioritized the comfort of spectators and fans, providing around 90 support zones. An environmental initiative was also launched, promoting sustainable practices through the use of biodegradable materials at catering points and educational sessions on conscious consumption and sustainable development.
The TV BRICS International Media Network was a prominent international media partner for the Moscow Marathon. This collaboration showcased the event on a global scale, highlighting the unity and spirit of sportsmanship among participants from diverse backgrounds.
Such marathons not only promote fitness and healthy competition but also foster cultural exchange and international camaraderie. They serve as platforms for showcasing cities and countries, attracting participants and spectators worldwide. The success of the Moscow Marathon underscores the growing popularity of such events and their role in promoting athleticism, unity, and environmental consciousness.
