China to Host Groundbreaking Human-Robot Half-Marathon in Beijing

China is gearing up to host an unprecedented event in the realm of sports technology – a groundbreaking human-robot half-marathon in Beijing. This innovative race, scheduled for April, will bring together a diverse array of “athletes” from across the globe, encompassing both humans and humanoid robots in a futuristic showdown.

The event, to be held in Beijing’s ‘E-Town’, will witness the participation of 12,000 human long-distance runners alongside humanoid robots representing numerous international companies. The competition rules mandate that the robots possess a humanoid form with the ability to walk or run on two legs, thereby excluding wheeled models. Eligible robots can be remote-controlled, semi-autonomous, or fully autonomous, adding a layer of complexity and technological prowess to the race.

To ensure the safety of all participants, including both human and robotic contenders, designated lanes, iron barriers, and greenbelt isolations will be implemented along the racecourse. The marathon will impose a time limit of three and a half hours, with cash prizes awaiting the top three finishers, irrespective of their species – human or robot. Additionally, robots will be evaluated for special categories such as endurance and aesthetic appeal, with awards earmarked for outstanding performances.

During the race, robots will be allowed to change batteries, and teams can engage in relay-style participation by swapping robots. The performance assessment will consider factors like finishing time and the frequency of robot changes, with penalties imposed for each change to maintain competitiveness and fairness.

This pioneering event aims not only to showcase advancements in humanoid robotics but also to stimulate discussions and enhance public awareness regarding the capabilities of robots, thereby fostering further advancements in the industry.
