Seville is gearing up for the Zurich Marathon set to take place on Sunday, February 23rd, attracting a crowd of 14,000 runners who will navigate a challenging 42-kilometer course through the city’s streets, starting from the Paseo de las Delicias. The event will prompt significant traffic restrictions and road closures beginning Friday, February 21st, at 6:00 pm until Sunday evening at 7:00 pm.
These traffic cuts have become a customary part of the marathon experience, with last year’s event following a similar pattern of road closures in the city center from 6:30 am. This year’s restrictions will impact key areas such as the Paseo de las Delicias, Avenida de la Guardia Civil, and Avenida Moliní, starting Friday evening and lasting until Sunday evening. Urquiza street will also be off-limits to traffic from midnight to 3:00 pm on Sunday.
By 9:20 am on Sunday, major city center roads will be closed to traffic, followed by the historic Ronda at 9:50 am. The marathon route will gradually clear as runners pass through, with some areas reopening to traffic by 2:42 pm. However, certain roads like Paseo de las Delicias may remain closed until later in the day.
Parking will also be restricted before and after the race, with designated areas clearly marked to ensure smooth traffic flow. Prohibitions on parking will be enforced due to route constraints, refreshment points, and the logistical requirements of the event. These measures aim to streamline the race day operations and minimize disruptions for both participants and residents.
Events like the Zurich Marathon not only showcase the city’s vibrant spirit and athletic prowess but also pose logistical challenges that require careful planning and coordination. The annual marathon has become a hallmark event for Seville, attracting participants from around the world and fostering a sense of community and sportsmanship.
As Seville prepares to host yet another thrilling edition of the Zurich Marathon, residents and visitors alike can anticipate a day filled with excitement, camaraderie, and the thrill of athletic achievement. The city’s streets will pulse with energy as runners push their limits and spectators cheer them on, creating a vibrant tapestry of sport and culture against the backdrop of Seville’s historic landmarks.
