Becky Richardson and Ian Dawson, staff members from the University of Chester, recently achieved significant milestones by completing their first marathons. Becky participated in the London Marathon alongside her aunty Ann Delve, while Ian took on the Manchester Marathon. Becky, a financial accountant, finished the London Marathon in just under five hours, raising an impressive sum for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd. Ian, the kitchen manager at NoWFOOD, completed the Manchester Marathon in over five hours, raising funds for the British Heart Foundation.
Both Becky and Ian faced challenging conditions during their respective marathons, with unexpectedly warm temperatures pushing them to their physical limits. Despite the tough conditions, Becky described the London Marathon as a special and unforgettable experience, emphasizing the incredible atmosphere and the privilege of running for a charitable cause. She expressed gratitude to everyone who supported her fundraising efforts, highlighting the collective success of the Hospice London marathon runners in raising substantial donations.
Reflecting on his marathon experience, Ian acknowledged the brutal heat that made the race particularly demanding. Starting later in the day, Ian found the second half of the marathon especially tough due to heatstroke. His motivation to support the British Heart Foundation stemmed from a personal connection to heart health issues within his family. Ian exceeded his fundraising target for the race, attributing his success to the generosity of friends, family, and colleagues at NoWFOOD.
Notably, other members of the University’s Finance team also tackled marathons, with Lauren McLeod completing the Manchester Marathon and Eddie Austin taking on the Boston Marathon. Looking ahead, Ian plans to participate in several more running events, including half marathons in various locations, to continue raising donations for the BHF.
