The 2025 Shanghai Suzhou Creek Half Marathon saw Chinese and Kenyan runners dominating the podium, showcasing their exceptional athletic prowess. The event, held in Putuo District, witnessed a remarkable display of talent as around 7,000 runners embarked on a challenging 21-kilometer journey from Moganshan Road under the clear skies of a sunny morning.
Leading the pack was Chinese athlete Ma Rui, crossing the finish line victoriously with a remarkable time of 1:05:47. Following closely behind was Kuria John Njuguna from Kenya, displaying outstanding speed and determination with a time of 1:06:26. The third spot on the podium was secured by China’s own Lu Xiaochen, clocking in at 1:13:40. In the women’s category, Kenyan runner Muriuki Naomi Wambui clinched the top position, completing the race in an impressive time of 1:18:09. She was trailed by Chinese competitors Zhang Cao and Su Youyi, showcasing the diverse talent pool present at the event.
Notably, the marathon attracted 285 foreign participants from countries like Germany, Japan, and the US, adding an international flair to the competition. The organizers reported a high completion rate of 99.55%, highlighting the determination and endurance of the runners. The top performers, both male and female, earned coveted spots in the upcoming Shanghai Marathon, a testament to their exceptional performance.
The success of the event was further enhanced by the dedicated efforts of 876 volunteers, 15 ambulances, and over 100 medical staff ensuring the safety and smooth operation of the marathon. This collaborative effort underscored the spirit of sportsmanship and community involvement that characterized the event.
