The 13th edition of the Kantipur Half-Marathon concluded in Kathmandu with a strong message advocating for a greener future. The event, held on Saturday, witnessed numerous participants competing in various categories. Among the winners were Olympian Santoshi Shrestha and Nepali Army’s Khadak Bahadur Khadka, who clinched the women’s and men’s titles, respectively.
Shrestha, a former 5 km race champion, claimed her first 21.1 km title with a timing of 1 hour 23 minutes 28 seconds, marking her third attempt in this category. On the men’s side, Khadka completed the course in 1 hour 6 minutes 47 seconds, narrowly beating Kenya’s Julius Muriuki. The Nepali runner surged ahead of Muriuki near the finish line to secure victory in his second appearance at the event.
Army’s Purnalaxmi Neupane took the second spot in the women’s category, followed by Pushpa Bhandari of APF in third place. The top six positions in both men’s and women’s races were fiercely contested, showcasing the competitive spirit of the participants.
The half-marathon winners received substantial cash prizes, with the top finishers being rewarded for their exceptional performances. Additionally, various shorter races were organized under the theme ‘Let’s Run for a Greener Tomorrow,’ emphasizing the importance of environmental sustainability and promoting a healthier lifestyle through sports.
