Nana, a seasoned runner who has previously conquered the Hackney half marathon multiple times, is now gearing up for her biggest challenge yet – the 2025 London Marathon. Despite her familiarity with running, Nana is surprised by the increased appetite that has accompanied her rigorous training regimen for this iconic race.

Eight years ago, exercise became an integral part of Nana’s lifestyle, complementing her passion for cooking. As she ups her training miles, she finds herself more attuned to her body’s nutritional needs. Embracing Tower Pilates classes, Nana experiences a newfound strength and post-class euphoria, likening it to “walking on clouds.”

Nana’s day kicks off with a homemade ginger shot and electrolyte-infused hydration, setting the tone for her fasted cardio routine, which involves carb-loading the night before. Her breakfast consists of a nutrient-rich combination of coconut yogurt, homemade granola, fruits, and a revitalizing juice or protein shake. Throughout the day, she fuels herself with protein-heavy salads, wholesome snacks, and a carb-rich dinner to replenish her energy stores.

In a bid to optimize her performance, Nana has made lifestyle adjustments, including reducing alcohol intake and staying hydrated. Special occasions like skiing trips and weddings allow for indulgence, but she prioritizes water intake to aid post-drinking recovery. During longer runs, she relies on Maurten gels for sustained energy.

Guided by Nike coach Dora Atim, Nana follows a personalized training plan comprising a mix of runs, strength training, and Pilates sessions. Recognizing the importance of rest days in her schedule, she emphasizes the holistic approach to her preparation, aiming to build strength and endurance for the marathon.

As Nana looks ahead to race day, her primary goal is simply to complete the marathon, savoring the journey and the sense of accomplishment. She aims to immerse herself in the race atmosphere, reflecting on the dedication and effort she has invested in her training, all while supporting a charitable cause close to her heart.
