The 2025 Ballarat Marathon is set to be a thrilling event with thousands of participants gearing up to take on the challenge. Scheduled for April 26 and 27, this year’s marathon has seen over 8000 athletes register for the five different events available. While the half-marathon has already reached its capacity, spots are still open for the wheelchair half-marathon, full 42.2-kilometer marathon, the 10km race, The Courier 5km, and the mile (1600m).
One of the most exciting updates for this year’s marathon is the revised course, which has been described as ‘flatter, faster, and more enjoyable’ following feedback from previous participants. The alteration includes eliminating the uphill finish in the 21.1km course and replacing it with a U-turn on Lydiard Street, a change that has been well received by the running community.
Noteworthy champions from the previous year, Tom Do Canto from Sydney and Ella McCartney from Queensland, have expressed their intent to defend their titles at the upcoming event. The anticipation is high as these elite runners prepare to tackle the new course and vie for victory once again.
For those looking to participate, online registrations will close on April 24, with various pricing options based on the chosen event. The marathon, wheelchair half-marathon, 10km race, The Courier 5km, and the mile each offer unique challenges and rewards for competitors of all levels.
The marathon weekend will kick off with the mile race on Saturday, April 26, followed by the 10km race, The Courier 5km, and elite races for both men and women. Pacers will be on hand to guide participants aiming for specific finish times, ensuring a competitive and engaging atmosphere throughout the races.
In addition to the competitive events, the marathon also offers a scenic tour of Ballarat, taking runners through historic landmarks and picturesque surroundings. From the Arch of Victory to Lake Wendouree, participants will experience the city’s rich history and natural beauty while pushing their limits in the race.
To enhance the elite athlete experience, the 2025 Ballarat Marathon will introduce an elite athlete program for the first time. Athletes meeting specific performance standards will receive complimentary race entry, travel assistance, and exclusive access to race-day facilities, adding a new level of competition and prestige to the event.
With its revamped course, elite competitors, and scenic route through Ballarat, the 2025 Ballarat Marathon promises to be a memorable and exhilarating experience for all involved. As participants gear up to test their limits and chase their personal bests, the stage is set for a weekend of intense competition and camaraderie in the heart of Victoria.
