The Danang International Marathon 2018, sponsored by Manulife, took place at Bien Dong Park, Danang city. Athletes from around the world competed in various categories, including 42km, 21km, 10km, and a 5km fun run. This event marked the sixth edition of the marathon in Danang, showcasing itself as a prominent sports event attracting runners globally.
Known for its remarkable course, the Danang International Marathon offered runners a unique experience starting before dawn and continuing as the sun illuminated the streets. Participants had the opportunity to run past iconic landmarks like the Tran Thi Ly and Thuan Phuoc bridges, with the track providing breathtaking views of the beach at dawn.
Runners appreciated the scenic landscapes along the route, which not only offered visual delights but also tested their physical and mental endurance. To support the athletes, the organizing committee strategically placed water stations along the track to provide hydration and encouragement.
One of the highlights of the event was the participation of renowned runner Suzaki Yuuya, the champion of the Shonan Marathon in Japan. Yuuya’s impressive performance added to the competitive spirit of the marathon, inspiring other participants to push their limits and strive for excellence.
The marathon saw exceptional performances from various athletes, with Suzaki Yuuya clinching the top spot in the full marathon category. Vietnamese athletes also shone, with Huynh Tan Tien and Pham Thi Hong Le delivering outstanding performances in their respective races.
Japanese runner Hiroki Nakajima emerged victorious in the half-marathon category, showcasing his speed and endurance on the challenging course. Vietnamese athletes also displayed their talent, with Lo Thi Thanh and Nguyen Dang Khoa excelling in their races.
Notable stories from the marathon included Wah-shing Tan, a 61-year-old barefoot runner from Malaysia, who completed his 148th marathon in Danang. His dedication and passion for running garnered attention and admiration from fellow participants and spectators.
Aside from the competitive aspect, the Danang International Marathon also had a philanthropic component, raising funds for charity organizations and individuals in need. Over the years, the marathon has become a significant event in Danang, attracting thousands of participants worldwide and contributing to the city’s reputation in Southeast Asia.
With the theme “Because I love Danang,” the marathon aimed to promote a positive image of the city globally, showcasing its beauty, hospitality, and vibrant community spirit. The event received strong support from sponsors, local businesses, and participants, highlighting the collective effort to make the marathon a success and benefit the community.
